Twitter Alerts

September 26, 2013

I’ve always said that Twitter is one of the most powerful social media platforms out there, based purely on its simplicity. A simple 140 characters with no pictures or link previews to complicate things (until you choose to preview/open these), and the nature of sharing info with anyone out there (not just the 300 or so people you’ve met in real life).

Twitter has just announced Twitter Alerts, a feature that allows ‘credible’ organisations to send out important information out to users when other communication services aren’t accessible. Amazing. Keep it up, Twitter.

P.S. Follow me! I can safely say that 99.99% of my tweets won’t save you in an emergency situation, but whatever.

Overly Attached Mobile Phone Owners

September 19, 2013

While I’m sometimes guilty of being a bit too attached to my phone, I have to say that this vid touched home. I cannot stand it when I go out for coffee with a friend I haven’t seen for ages… and they start openly checking Twitter. I could have stayed at home to read Rob Delaney’s updates.

Skeleton Sketches

September 10, 2013

I did a lot of sketches and doodles when I was an angsty teenager (didn’t we all?!) but fell out of it once university/work/relationships got in the way. I was having a whisky with an artist friend earlier this year and he mentioned that he makes the time to do at least one drawing a day to get himself into the habit. It stuck with me and I’ve been drawing ridiculous amounts for the past few months.

Anyone, here’s just a tiny bit of my output. There’s a bit of a theme. It’s not obvious, is it? Anyway, click through to check them out on Instagram.

P.S. I did put up a post a million years ago about some random illustrations I did here.

Instagram advertising

September 9, 2013

Instagram will soon introduce advertising. Thanks, Zuckerberg. I was enjoying myself.

LinkedIn Being Creepy

September 1, 2013

I was just checking out my notifications in LinkedIn… when this came up on the right:

Which freaked me right out because it looks like my job role is ‘Sales’ at Optus! Sneaky marketing. Not sure if I dig this. Also, I would never do sales at a phone company.
